Congratulations Becky: Remarkable Women Finalist
Our own incredible Becky Berger was chosen as a finalist for the KOIN News remarkable women highlight! Nominated by her mother, LeeAnn, Becky was chosen due to her work in both the I/DD community and her role as a pioneering woman in the male-dominated industry of farming.
When Becky was 21, she married Keith Berger and together they raised six children on their farm and family business: Wells'-Berger Farms. It soon became apparent that three of their six children had special needs and, when Keith was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, Becky became their prime care giver. Keith passed away in 2011, leaving Becky on her own with the business and children. This time was difficult for the whole family, but especially the children. Her son Griffin, who was diagnosed with sever autism at two, struggled more than anyone. Due to his disability he was extremely isolated, and Becky decided to do something about it.
In 2015, Becky founded Griffin’s Place to provide resources and community to teenagers and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Since then, it has flourished into the beautiful community we have today. Thank you so much to our incredible Becky for starting Griffin’s Place and helping it at every step to improve. We are so grateful to have your optimism, strength, and compassion in our community. You are truly a Remarkable Woman!
